Shambles Newsletter February 2010

The February 2010 edition of the Shambles newsletter is now online at http://www.shambles.net/newsletter/february2010

There are only three a year so not many to look at.

I'm really pleased with how this edition has turned out ... and I'm also very grateful for the suggestions and contributions received.

I pretty certain that there will be something in the newsletter that will be of interest to you and your colleagues ... please feel free to pass the link around, it is public.

One section that is bulging is that listing conferences, courses and workshops especially in S.E.Asia ... including some for the next academic year ... your staff i/c teacher professional development should find this particularly useful.

All at: http://www.shambles.net/newsletter/february2010

Next newsletter will be in May ...

Have fun

Chris Smith (Shamblesguru)

p.s. Happy Chinese New Year .... Year of the Tiger ... Tigerlicious ;-)

BarCamp in Chiangmai Thailand

Yesterday I attended a BarCamp in Chiangmai ...

... and "no" it does not include alcohol ;-) .. not during daylight hours at least.

I really like this concept for organising a conference ... which can be initially very frightening when experienced for the first time .... turning up for a one day conference and there is absolutely no pre-planned programme.

I love the comment that is on the front page of the Chiangmai BarCamp websContinue

I use the same combo of web tools and completely agree with your thinking. Unless you have a professional need, DW etc isn't something you have time to learn. Many of the teachers I work with are in training to become online teachers. Even for these folks, I don't recommend DW, although greater awareness of html and the underpinnings of the Internet are a professional necessity.

I'm pretty sure you could get an interactive mindmap out of most of the online brainstorming tools like Mindmiester and bubbl.us.

It's good to connect Chris!

Chris, I really enjoyed your video tour and conceptual overview of a personal learning network. Combining mind-mapping and web 2.0 technologies works for me. http://screenr.com/md8

Shambles PLN were perfect keywords for finding this part of your site:

http://www.shambles.net/csmith/pln/

Did you do the hot-linked image chart using with html or using a web tool?

I see too that you're using Screenr.com. I prefer it over Jing because (for now) there's more free flexibility for publishing the videos. I've been a fan of Shambles for a long time. Great to connect with you online.
