I recently finished working on a grant project in Information Literacy for the University of Central Florida. A repository of short, self-contained multimedia learning objects were created, each focused on one Info Lit objective. Content demonstrations and interactive Practice sections prepare users for an Assessment that matches the objective. Assessments include hands-on simulations and case studies.
I combine several professional skills: online and classroom educator (16+ years), instructional design (ADDIE), graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator), multimedia design (Flash, Captivate, Camtasia), web design and development (Dreamweaver, Javascript, Fireworks) , software engineering, database design and project management.
My research interests are the role of multimedia, simulation, immersive virtual environments and "serious games" in brain-based learning and neurological rehabilitation.
Brain-based learning is a comprehensive approach to instruction informed by current research in neuroscience. It is based on what we currently know about the actual structure and function of the human brain at varying stages of development. This meta-concept , which considers both cognitive and affective factors, provides a biologically driven framework for teaching and learning, and helps explain how recurring learning behaviors are evoked - emotions, for example, are critical factors in attention, meaning and memory..
